surgery
At Main Line Veterinary Hospital, surgery is a part of our daily routine. We know that whatever the situation, we’re up to the task and prepared to make the entire experience a success. We also know that as a pet parent, learning that your pet needs surgery can be a frightening time filled with anxiety and uncertainty. You want to be sure that your loved one will be well cared for and won’t be in too much pain.
Our team is here to answer your questions, quell your concerns and set your mind at ease. Each of our vets has a vast experience performing a wide variety of surgical procedures, both routine and complex. More importantly, we always place the safety and comfort of our patients as our highest priority. You can rest assured that your companion will be in excellent hands with our surgical team!
The goal at Main Line Veterinary Hospital, particularly when it comes to surgery, is to keep our patients as safe as possible. That’s why we always recommend a thorough pre-surgical screening. This helps us to verify that your pet is healthy enough to undergo surgery, and also reveals potential risk factors so that we can prepare for them ahead of time. The more we plan ahead, the smoother and more stress-free the entire experience will be for everyone.
Once we’ve got the green light to proceed with surgery, the next step is pain management. It’s extremely important to us that your pet does not experience discomfort at any time during the surgery process. We use only the safest pain control products, which are designed to be effective while also minimizing risk as much as possible. We will tailor our pain control approach to meet your pet’s unique needs and risk factors.
When it’s time for surgery, we will administer the anesthesia in the safest and most pain-free method available. The doctor will then get to work performing the procedure at hand. Both Dr. Hahn and Dr. Lyons possess more than 25 years of experience in performing a wide variety of surgeries and are trained and experienced in the most modern techniques. Our highly skilled care team will also be on hand at all times to assist with surgery and to closely monitor your pet’s well being – before, during and following surgery.
Some of the surgeries routinely performed at Main Line Vet Hospital include:
Spays and Neuters
Eye Surgery
Stomach and Intestinal Procedures
Bladder Procedures/Stone Removal
Mass Removals
Oral Surgery
C-Sections
Certain orthopedic procedures, including ACL repair, have also been performed at our hospital. Should a specialized procedure be required, we have an excellent working relationship with our local referral hospitals, as well as the University of Pennsylvania, so a specialist can be consulted.
Once your pet’s surgery is complete, we will gently relocate them to our quiet recovery area where we will continue to monitor them as the anesthesia begins to wear off. The doctor will contact you to explain how everything went, discuss any noteworthy findings and schedule a time for you to come pick up your pet. When you arrive, we’ll go over our after-care instructions, which may include a customized plan for pain management to help your pet recover more comfortably at home. The day following surgery, our staff will call to see how your pet is doing and to answer any questions you might have concerning the recovery process.
If you’ve just learned that your pet needs surgery, there’s no need to worry – especially when you’ve got the experienced team at Main Line Veterinary Hospital in your corner. We’ll do everything within our power to make sure that your companion’s surgery is an absolute success.
