WELCOME TO OUR CLINIC

Meet Dr. Marcie Ho-Gatto, CVmA

Dr. Marcie Ho-Gatto is an associate veterinarian at Main Line Veterinary Hospital and a Certified Veterinary Medical Acupuncturist (CVmA). Her advanced training in veterinary acupuncture and integrative medicine allows her to offer evidence-based complementary therapies alongside conventional veterinary treatments.

Dr. Ho-Gatto develops individualized treatment protocols based on comprehensive medical history review, thorough physical examination, and diagnostic testing when indicated. Her integrative approach may combine medical acupuncture, cold laser therapy, conventional medications, and other therapeutic modalities to achieve optimal patient outcomes.

MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE

Veterinary medical acupuncture is an evidence-based therapeutic modality that involves the precise insertion of fine, sterile needles into specific anatomical points to stimulate nerves, muscles, connective tissue, and vascular structures. This targeted stimulation triggers physiological responses that promote healing and pain relief.

The therapeutic effects include release of endogenous endorphins and anti-inflammatory mediators, enhanced blood and lymphatic circulation, modulation of the central and autonomic nervous systems, and immune system stimulation. These mechanisms work synergistically to reduce pain, decrease inflammation, and support the body’s natural healing processes.

Most pets tolerate acupuncture very well, and many become relaxed or even sleepy during treatment sessions. Treatment frequency and duration vary based on the condition being treated, with some pets responding after a single session while others benefit from a series of treatments.

COLD LASER THERAPY

Cold laser therapy, also known as low-level laser therapy (LLLT) or photobiomodulation, utilizes specific wavelengths of light to penetrate tissue and stimulate cellular processes. The photons absorbed by cells enhance mitochondrial function, increase cellular metabolism, and promote ATP (energy) production at the cellular level.

These biological effects result in accelerated tissue repair, reduced inflammation, decreased pain perception, and enhanced wound healing. Cold laser therapy is completely non-invasive, drug-free, and well-tolerated by patients. It can be used as a standalone treatment or integrated with other therapeutic interventions for synergistic benefits.

Treatment sessions are quick and painless, typically lasting 5-15 minutes. Most pets find the treatment relaxing and may even become drowsy during sessions. There are virtually no adverse side effects, making it an extremely safe therapeutic option.
